Labor MP Joel Fitzgibbon says news the US has already lost the war of artificial intelligence with China “surprises” him.
The Pentagon’s ex-software chief Nicolas Chaillan has spoken out, saying the United States has already lost the AI fight to China.
“It surprises me because I’ve been in the security agencies in the United States … and seen how much time, effort, resources and intelligence they put into staying ahead of the game,” Mr Fitzgibbon told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
Mr Fitzgibbon said he hoped Mr Chaillan was wrong, because the United States is Australia’s “security guarantor in the region”.
“They can’t … be our security guarantor if they fall behind the game in cyber, because in any future conflict cyber will be where the real action is.”
